WHAT’S GOING ON?

How you doing? How you feel? Just checking in on ya, four months into this not so new year. It’s nearly May, already! The year of the tiger is feeling like the year of the lamb so far. Expectations, am I right?

Spring has gotten off to a slow start for me. It feels sleepy when I thought it would feel explosive, for some reason. Yet hope springs eternal!

Before we get into today’s blog post, I thought we’d start with five things that you may not know about me…

FIVE THINGS ABOUT: ME

  1. My favorite bird is the Dark-Eyed Junco
  2. I love patbingsu but haven’t eaten any since I left Korea over two years ago. Patbingsu is a Korean shaved iced dessert, you can have it with sweetened red beans or even Oreo’s
  3. If a label says, “child-proof” or “E-Z open”, only God knows when I’ll get it open. (And He ain’t talking.)
  4. My favorite holiday: I don’t have one.
  5. My zodiac element = wood.

WORKING ON MY: FITNESS

I’ve mentioned HERE and in my newsletter that I am working on being my fittest in time for (and beyond) my 5 year fitness anniversary. Well, I just hit a big milestone, to-date I’ve lost 30 pounds! Yep, yep! 🎉🎉🎉🎉

It took me 161 days or 23 weeks. Just shy of the 24 weeks that I thought it would take me. For my next trick, I’ll maintain this weight foreveeeer!

Hint: I learned that you can’t out exercise a “bad diet” and other pressing issues like stress. If you’re not hitting your physical fitness goals try addressing other areas of your life first.

LEARNING FROM: YouTube University

  1. This story of an RN turned cocktail entrepreneur from Buy from a Black Woman drew me in and inspires me.
  2. As someone who always feels hungry, this video absolutely intrigued me. A year long commitment to eat till satiated without restrictions.
  3. Try as I might, tofu is just something that I can’t get quite right. So I was excited to come across these Japanese tofu recipes. Yippee!! Maybe this will be a game changer. 🤞🏾🤞🏾
  4. This chocolate truffle milk is just blowing my mind! 🤯
  5. After SO many years of doing @ home workouts, Kesha Collins has probably changed my mind. Her videos make me feel like, well sh*t, maybe I’ll join a gym! Check out her Beginners Gym Guide and Dumbbell Workout video, as well.

JUST WANNA: MOVE

  • For cloudy days or when you’re feeling meh but still wanna get on your mat… I love Jessica Richburg’s seated yoga videos. Here’s one that I did in March!
  • This song makes me feel like jumping up on Eastern Parkway on Labor Day or better yet in Trinidad for carnival!
  • April has been a less intense workout month than usual for me. Nevertheless, here are some of my favorites! ⬇️⬇️

DREAMING OF: Seychelles

Travel+Leisure magazine landed in the mailbox several weeks ago. I still haven’t finished reading this article re: how to plan a trip to Seychelles. And I may never, I’m just stuck dreaming about this view. But why dream when I can plan. I’ll have to update this post someday (soon please God, please) with my very own photo taken in Seychelles!
