I love museums. Particularly, art museums. There is something peaceful about wandering from piece to piece. My favorite art museums in South Korea are Leeum, Samsung Museum of Art in Seoul, Daegu Art Museum in Daegu and Bonte Museum on Jeju Island.
As of this writing and over 5 years in Korea, I am ashamed to say that I have still not been to the Busan Museum of Art or the Gwangju Museum of Art. That being said…
This post is about Annual Art Fairs in South Korea so without further ado:
- KIAF – The 17th Annual Korea International Art Fair will be held 10/4/18 to 10/7/18 at COEX in Seoul. This one is on my travel/art bucket list! It’s taking place during a long weekend in Korea…so we might make a weekend trip out of it. If we go, I will update this post.
2019 UPDATE: We didn’t go. Maybe next time! KIAF returns 9/26/19 to 9/29/19
2. Daegu Art Fair – will be held 11/22/18 to 11/25/18 at EXCO in Daegu. I’ve been to this art fair a few times. Love it! It’s a great chance to see and buy local Korean art.
2019 UPDATE: Daegu Art Fair returns: 11/13/19 to 11/17/19
3. Art Busan This international art fair is the biggest in Korea with artists and galleries from Korea, America, Japan, Germany and more! We attended the April 2018 fair at BEXCO (Busan Exhibition and Convention Centre) and had a blast! We got discounted tickets from Ticket Monster that included a catalog and eco bag. The Ticket Monster site is in Korean so you may need help navigating. Also, I am not sure if they will offer discounts for 2019 and beyond.
2019 UPDATE: Art Busan returns: 5/31/19 to 6/2/19
Here are some other cool art experiences in Daegu:
1. RealtiArt – Artist owned gallery. Features art exhibits, wine and paint night and singing classes.
2. Beomeo Subway Station Art Galleries I happened upon these art galleries a few years ago. What a pleasant surprise! One moment I am exiting the subway station and the next moment? Art everywhere! Definitely worth a visit! Also check out this City Art Guide featuring Daegu’s galleries and art streets.
3. Daegu Art Factory – One of my fav places in Daegu hands down! They have artists in residence so you can always count on fresh art. There are also artists literally across the street (attended a live band concert there) with an artist’s market on the first floor. These buildings seemed to be an extension of Daegu Art Factory.
