Every fitness journey is unique but they all have a beginning! Why not commemorate all of your hard work and dedication? On July 16th, I’ll be celebrating two years of working out consistently (on average 6 times a week). So, I’ve been thinking about ways to celebrate.
What is a Fitness Anniversary, Anyway?
After one year of – insert your fitness goals here – it’s time to pause, reflect, and celebrate! REPEAT ANNUALLY! ❤️
Fitness is a life-long journey. Why not pause, acknowledge our progress, and have a moment of gratitude for our current health and strength? Why not?!
Time to Celebrate!
1. Switch things up!
- Try a new-to-you fitness or dance class. Example: If you’ve been studying dance for two years try soccer for a day.
- Sharpen your knife skills and cook a celebratory meal with your family.
2. Pump up the volume!
- Create a new workout music playlist for your run or gym time.
- Look online for some workout music inspiration
3. Invest in New Equipment!
If like me, you workout at home, now is a good time to treat yourself to that new bench or barbell that you’ve been eyeing!
You could also:
- Buy new workout clothes
- Beautify your fitness area
4 . Go on Pinterest and find new healthy recipes or workout ideas. Set a date in your calendar and TRY them! Maybe even throw a luncheon or lead a workout class to show off your new skills.
I’m not sure how many healthy recipes I have memorized but I make a mean Orzo Salad!😜
5. Go on a fitness trip!
- Stay local. Get on a plane. The choice is yours!
6. Fitness Gift Wish list
Throughout the year, your family and friends may want to gift you things or experiences for holidays, birthdays, promotions, etc., instead ask for something on your fitness anniversary wish list!
7. Start a new tradition
…Like annually raising money for a charity via a 5K, bike tour, or perhaps a golf tournament. There are so many amazing organizations out there!
Personally, my favorite organization to support is Friends of Karen. They do so very much to serve and support Tri-state (New York, Connecticut, and New Jersey) families and their seriously ill children.
8. Buy a new fitness journal or design your own. Keeping a fitness journal can help you track your progress.
9. Read or Listen to Health & Fitness Books
Here are some of my favorites. You may be able to find these at your local library or do a fit book swap with friends:
- The Compound Effect – At first blush, this doesn’t seem like a fitness book but it’s what got me into the habit of tracking my workouts. It’s all incrementally building good habits.
- Stay Fit for Life: More than 60 Exercises to Restore Your Strength and Future-Proof Your Body by Joshua Kozak of HASfit YouTube fame. It’s great to have on hand when I am not using workout videos.
- I’ve Been Thinking Reflections, Prayers, and Meditation for a Meaningful Life by Maria Shriver. I LOVE this book. I own the e-book and the journal versions.
- 101 Power Thoughts by Louise Hay – I talked about the impact that this audiobook has had on me here.
10. Reflect!
-
-
- What worked?
- What might you improve on?
- What brought you the most joy?
- What if any changes to your fitness lifestyle do you want to make?
- Biggest surprise or lesson learned?
- The absolute highlight of the year(s)?
- Setback or challenge that made you stronger/healthier/wiser?
-
Don’t Forget…
You don’t have to wait for the b-i-g anniversary date!
- Going to bed on time?
- Meeting up with your fitness buddy for the third day in a row?
- Starting your days with your daily affirmations?
$$$$$$ Budget Tip – Save in advance for your anniversary:
- with a sinking fund.
- I’ve also heard folks talking about using Digit for travel (swipe right to hear the Digit travel savings story)
One More Thing
Life happens and so you might find yourself less enthused to lace up your sneakers or put on your swimsuit. That is OKAY!
Do you know how I made it through my first year of working out consistently?
Some days I phoned it in, some days I went all in and some days I just laid down. Be gentle with yourself. You’re not celebrating perfection. You’re celebrating practice.
As Millionaire Hoy says, “Practice makes progress”!
